About this listen
Join us for the second part of The #Chilean #Mining #Disaster which occurred in 2010, when thirty-three miners were trapped after a 770,000 ton chunk of the #mountain BROKE OFF and fell into the mine.
It took the owners of the mine more than an excusable amount of time to alert authorities to the #accident. When emergency response teams eventually went into the #mine, they were confronted with a monumental task - drill to more than a half a mile through extremely tough, #Diorite rock in as short a time as possible.
Added to that, no-one knows if there are any #survivors because there's no way to contact them. And any surviving miners, equally, have no way of contacting the surface. At this point, it's a guessing game for miners and rescuers alike.
This is the 2nd part of a two-part story about the amazing rescue of #The33.
