Halim Flowers is an author, poet, artist and prison reform activist from Washington, DC. At age 16, he was charged as an adult for being an accomplice to a felony murder and sentenced to a term of 40 years to life in prison. While incarcerated, he discovered his love for literature and the arts, and began to write poetry. After serving 22 years behind bars he was released, using his influence to help enact the Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act. He is now a prolific artist, with works shown across the country in some of the world's most prestigious galleries, alongside Warhol, Basquiat and more. He currently uses his newfound notoriety to help those currently or formerly incarcerated by pushing for criminal justice reform.

In this episode, Cari and Halim talk about the environment that led to his prison sentence, how he used that time to become a successful poet and author, and hi adjustment to life outside of prison – from learning to paint to eventually showing his works some of the world's most prestigious art galleries.

Amara La Negra is singer, actress and host. She is perhaps best known for being a cast member on the VH1’s reality TV show, 'Love & Hip Hop: Miami.' On the show, she tries to bring light to sexism, classism, colorism and racism in the entertainment industry. She also recently became a new mother to twins and hosts a podcast called Exactly Amara.

In this episode, Amara talks about the challenges of her Afro-Latina identity, how it has affected her career, and her hopes to educate people about Afro-Latinos. She also discusses the regrets she has from filming a reality show and the ways motherhood has changed her.

Jordan Chiles is a highly decorated American gymnast. She is a member of the United States women's national artistic gymnastics team with whom she won a Silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She won the Gold at 2018 Pacific Rim champion on the vault and the floor exercise. At the 2018 Stuttgart World Cup she won the Bronze in the all-around. Currently she is a member of the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team.
