  • Craft vs. Clout: Is Acting Dead in the Influencer Economy?
    Jul 27 2026

In this insightful episode, Seth Panitch talks about his first book, Antique; his two-decade-long career of blending academia with theater and moviemaking; and views on artistry in the era of artificial intelligence and quite popular influencer culture.

Seth explains that Antique was born from witnessing the emotional scene on the show Antiques Roadshow, which explains the issue of how society takes aging and depth for granted. Then he shares his views on teaching, implying that true artistry does not come only from good talent and experiences but requires lots of intensive training. So, even though techniques relating to the use of AI in the writing industry exist, they cannot lead to serious art. He believes that true art is what people want to get from performance, and the art that does not require sacrifices just cannot be considered true art.

The conversation covered the issue of publishing, literary agents, and upcoming books of Panitch while ending with the analysis of the greatest books, films, and actors in the world of art and literature by Panitch.
