About this listen

Good evening. Texas. I'm Aaron Jolly. A dangerous evening is unfolding across North Texas. Severe storms are pounding the Dallas area right now. We've a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and Flash Flood Warning in effect. Some storms could dump one to two inches of rain. Hail the size of ping pong balls and 60 mile an hour wind gusts are possible before this wraps up around 10:30 tonight. If you're in Dallas or Kaufman County, stay inside and away from windows. In the next 24 hours. The rest of the state sits under a gray, mild blanket. We're starting at 78 degrees under overcast skies. That overnight low of 74 degrees? Closer to our normal high for early March than our low. Down in South Texas, you feel that Gulf breeze. Southeast winds gusting to 31 miles an hour keep things breezy. Highs climb to 91 degrees — 54 degrees above normal. The Rio Grande Valley feels more like late May. Central Texas wakes up to 68 degrees with a slight chance of morning thunderstorms. A few rumbles are possible before 9 A.M. Then partly sunny skies and a high of 85 degrees. The Gulf Coast stays mostly cloudy with a high of 82 degrees. Southeast winds at 10 to 15 miles an hour bring that familiar humid feel off the water. North Texas sees the most action. Storms continue overnight with heavy rain possible. Thursday brings a brief lull with a high near 80 degrees. An active pattern takes hold Friday and doesn't let go. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms roll through Saturday into early next week. Some storms could be strong to severe. And locally heavy rain may trigger flash flooding. Rain chances climb to 80 percent by Sunday. Happy Texas Independence Day! Tonight's full moon lights up those cloudy skies. Tornado season arrives in just 11 days. And spring equinox is about two weeks away. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
