木谷さんは2005年に、立ち寄った園芸店で「ハエトリソウ」という食虫植物に出会い、一目惚れ！ 棘のついた二枚貝のような独特なフォルムに魅了され、それ以来、どっぷりと食虫植物にハマっていらっしゃいます。
そして「ウツボカズラ」を使った料理があることを知り、食虫植物をめぐる食文化にも興味が拡大！ しまいには『ウツボカズラ飯紀行〜食虫植物と食文化をめぐる冒険』という本を自費出版するほど、虜になっています。そんな木谷さんに、ボルネオ島のジャングルに自生するウツボカズラの特徴や、先住民の伝統食「ウツボカズラ飯」についてうかがいました。
