In this special festival kickoff mini-episode of The Road to SilverVox, WFRE chats with Frederick's own Raye Boyd, the talented singer-songwriter and American Idol standout who will be performing at this year's inaugural festival on June 19!

In the final Road to SilverVox episode before the festival begins, filmmaker and actor Sasha Carrera joins host Jordan Miller to talk about the experience of shooting in and around downtown Frederick for her musical comedy film Spinsters - which screens Saturday at the Weinberg Center. And in the second half, filmmaker Zak Seidman discusses the creative process that led to his experimental horror film Crippled – which screens Friday night at Warehouse Cinemas followed by a Sunday encore at the MET.

In a special double-length episode, SilverVox Film + Music Festival Music Programming Director Dan Silver - a record producer with 25+ years’ experience in the entertainment industry – talks to host Jordan Miller about the festival’s music lineup: Cults, DIIV and Kishi Bashi on Saturday, June 20th, Frederick’s own Rae Boyd on Friday, June 19th, and a diverse selection of local performers appearing at venues all-across town. Then, writer and director Danielle Weinberg joins Jordan to talk about her short film Invasion ’53 - starring horror legend Jeffrey Combs – which screens Friday afternoon, followed by a special midnight showing Saturday night.

Filmmaker and SilverVox Film + Music Festival judge Sharon Pieczenik – who spent nearly two decades creating documentary and nonfiction media for clients such as Discovery Channel International, San Diego PBS, National Geographic, and the Center for Investigative Reporting - discusses what makes documentary film different, the high points and pitfalls of the creative life, and the path that brought her to Frederick.

Screenwriter, director, and SilverVox Film + Music Festival judge Richard Jefferies joins host Jordan Miller to talk about returning home to Frederick from Hollywood, transitioning from the studio world to indie film, and the growth of Frederick’s creative community. He also teases his upcoming talk The Surfer’s Secret: Inside the 90s Marvel Movie You Never Saw (11Am Sat. June 20th @ The MET stage 2).

Actor Dan Franco, who appears in two films that will be screened at the SilverVox Film + Festival: Danielle Weinberg’s Invasion ’53 and Emily Ginnona’s The Disproportionate Man – talks to host Jordan Miller about the evolution of the local filmmaking scene and his experience working with horror legend Jeffrey Combs on Invasion ’53.

Filmmaker and SilverVox Film + Music Festival judge Scott Crawford – whose documentary Salad Days chronicled the influential D.C. punk underground scene of the 1980s – joins host Jordan Miller for a wide-ranging discussion about the evolution of the D.C. scene and the influence of punk across music, film and beyond. Crawford’s new film: Something Better Change, the story of legendary D.O.A. frontman Joe Keithley’s surprising pivot to politics, screens Saturday, June 20th at the YMCA Ausherman Arts Center.

Author, Documentary Filmmaker and SilverVox Film + Music Festival judge Michael Streissguth discusses the complex process behind long-form narrative documentaries like his new film Tiananmen Tonight. A powerful drama about Dan Rather and the CBS Evening News team’s courageous reporting during the 1989 student uprising, Tiananmen Tonight screens Friday, June 19th at New Spire Arts.
