  • By the Power of Nostalgia: Masters of the Universe 1987 vs. Masters of the Universe 2026
    Jun 24 2026

Today, we are opening the gates of Castle Grayskull and comparing two very different live-action takes on the same legendary franchise: Masters of the Universe from 1987 and the brand-new Masters of the Universe from 2026.

One was a Cannon Films swing-for-the-fences cult classic starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella. The other is Amazon MGM and Mattel Studios’ big-budget attempt to bring He-Man back to the big screen.

Did Hollywood finally get He-Man right… or did the weird, messy, low-budget 1987 movie still have the true power?

  • Battle Beyond the Stars: Roger Corman's $2 Million Star Wars
    Jun 18 2026

Released in 1980, Battle Beyond the Stars is Roger Corman's answer to Star Wars. The story follows Shad, a young man from the peaceful planet Akir. Their world is threatened by the ruthless warlord Sador, who commands the terrifying Stellar Converter weapon. Shad travels across the galaxy recruiting warriors, rogues, mercenaries and outcasts to defend his home world. If that plot sounds familiar, it should. The movie is essentially The Magnificent Seven in space, which itself was based on Seven Samurai. And somehow, despite the low budget and obvious Star Wars inspiration, Battle Beyond the Stars becomes its own weird, entertaining, charming sci-fi adventure.

  • The Most Underrated 80s Horror Movies Nobody Talks About
    Jun 5 2026

This week on Retro Life 4 You, we’re turning off the lights, checking the locks, and digging deep into the dusty corners of the video store horror section. Everyone remembers A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, and The Lost Boys — but what about the creepy, strange, and seriously underrated horror movies from the 1980s that don’t get talked about nearly enough? In this episode, we shine a flashlight on some of the forgotten horror gems of the 80s — the movies that may not have become massive franchises, but still delivered killer practical effects, eerie atmosphere, bizarre monsters, memorable kills, and that unmistakable late-night VHS energy. From supernatural slashers and creature features to haunted houses, cult oddities, and low-budget nightmares, these are the movies that deserve another trip through the rewind machine. We’ll talk about why these films slipped through the cracks, what makes them worth revisiting today, and how the 1980s horror boom created so many wild, weird, and wonderfully creepy movies that still have a special place in retro horror history. So grab your popcorn, dim the lights, and join us as we revisit the forgotten frights of 80s horror — the ones hiding just beyond the big-name classics.
