The Lake Waco Murders investigation takes a darker turn in Part 2.

After the bodies of Jill Montgomery, Raylene Rice, and Kenneth Franks were discovered near Lake Waco in July 1982, the autopsy findings began raising even more questions. The evidence pointed to a violent, personal, and deeply disturbing crime scene, but this case was far from simple.

In this episode, we pick up with the autopsy findings and follow the investigation as attention turns toward Muneer Deeb, David Spence, Gilbert Melendez, and eventually, Toni Melendez.

What started as a brutal triple murder soon became a case built around alleged motives, informant testimony, forensic questions, and a prosecution that would eventually lead to convictions in the Lake Waco Murder case.

But by the end of Part 2, you’ll see just how complicated this case really is, and how the convictions were only the beginning of another chapter in the Lake Waco Murders story.

The Lake Waco Murders: A Local Nightmare begins with three teenagers, one summer night, and a case that would haunt Waco, Texas for decades.

In July 1982, Jill Montgomery, Raylene Rice, and Kenneth Franks went out for what should have been a normal night near Lake Waco. But when they never made it home, a search began that would lead investigators to one of the most disturbing crime scenes in Central Texas history.

In Part 1, we walk through the beginning of the Lake Waco Murders case, from the teenagers’ final known movements, to Raylene’s car being found near Koehne Park, to the discovery of the bodies at Speegleville Park.

What happened to Jill, Raylene, and Kenneth was brutal, heartbreaking, and deeply unsettling. But almost from the beginning, this case was surrounded by rumors, questions, and investigative decisions that would shape everything that came next.

Elmer McCurdy wanted to be remembered as an outlaw, but his afterlife became far stranger than anything he did while he was alive.

In the early 1900s, McCurdy tried to make a name for himself as a train robber and outlaw. But his criminal career was chaotic, unsuccessful, and short-lived. After a botched robbery and a fatal shootout, his story should have ended with his death.
