The Big Sleep Out, March 8th 2024
Beth and Rebecca are pitching their cardboard boxes, digging out the woolly hats and gloves and their thermals and sleeping out with a bunch of incredible people to raise money for Newark Emmaus Trust and the YMCA.
The Newark Emmaus Trust helps local, homeless young people aged 16-25 and their children by providing a temporary home with professional care, support and training. Their aim is not to simply provide a temporary home but to give young people real opportunities in life, hope for the future and help them become independent.
The YMCA is committed to changing lives and communities, allowing people to belong, contribute and thrive. In the past year, the YMCA have supported 1,209 residents in their care. Over 53% of their bed spaces are occupied by those under the age of 30 - they are empowering young lives, building confidence, nurturing their potential, and providing them with tools for a fulfilling future, to give them a decent start in life.
This Friday, 8 March, we are putting ourselves in the shoes of people in the community who don’t have a place to call home, or even a safe place to stay and are forced to sleep rough every night. The thing is, homelessness can happen to anyone for many, many different reasons.
If you can donate anything, even £1, to help support the incredible work they do in changing and transforming people’s lives, we'd be so grateful.
