  • Building Veteran Careers And Mental Health Support In Louisiana
    May 22 2026

A lot of people say “thank you for your service,” but fewer know what to do next. We sit down with Andrew Ward, Army and National Guard veteran and the leader behind Acadiana Veterans Alliance (AVA), to talk about what real support looks like when the uniform comes off and life keeps moving. The conversation starts with a simple challenge: even when you have a million things going on, pick one way to serve, because it can refill your own cup while you help someone else.

Andrew breaks down AVA’s clear “Work, Heal, Give” model and why post-9-11 veterans often need different resources than earlier generations. We talk veteran employment and career placement, how AVA connects veterans with companies ready to hire, and why mentorship matters when the military’s built-in structure disappears. We also get into veteran entrepreneurship through Mission Launch, a program designed to help veterans turn ideas into businesses with practical guidance and the right network.

Then we go deep on veteran mental health and healing. Andrew explains AVA’s HEAL program, including the stellate ganglion block (SGB) for hyperarousal and post-traumatic stress, and why pairing the procedure with trauma-informed counseling changes outcomes. We also discuss the shift from PTSD to PTSI, treating post-traumatic stress as an injury instead of a disorder, and how privacy and telehealth can lower the barrier to asking for help.

We close with a look at “The Boot,” a Louisiana effort that recruits transitioning service members like a college football program, matching talent with careers, education options, and relocation support that strengthens families and the state’s workforce. If you care about veteran transition, community service, or practical mental health solutions, you’ll leave with new language and real next steps. • How Two Louisiana Mamas Built A Nostalgia Fueled Community
    May 13 2026

Something powerful happens when two friends sit down with coffee and stop performing for the world. Koa and Sarah, better known as the Cajun Mamas, join us to share how their kitchen table style videos sparked a wave of nostalgia and turned into a tight community for people who miss slower days, real visits, and the feeling of being known. We talk about their South Louisiana roots, Church Point pride, and why a simple cup on the table can transport viewers straight back to their grandma’s house.

We also go past the laughs and into the real work: building a brand, juggling small business responsibilities, handling messages and scheduling, packing and shipping merchandise, and protecting family time when your phone is also your job. They share what they keep private, how their spouses handle the spotlight, and why boundaries matter when you’re raising kids in public. If you’re a creator, a business owner, or a mom trying to keep all the plates spinning, you’ll hear a lot that feels familiar.

Then we zoom out to the deeper stuff: preserving Cajun culture through food, music, and language, and leaning on faith to navigate success, depression, anxiety, and big decisions. We wrap with a simple challenge that hits hard in a distracted world: less is more, cut what isn’t serving you, and make time for the small joys that bring you back to yourself. • Louisiana’s Free Global Festival With Moussa Sadou
    Apr 15 2026

French was once treated like something to hide in Louisiana. Today, it’s a doorway into memory, family, and a kind of community pride that you can hear in the streets of Lafayette. I’m joined by Musa Sadoo, a French educator from Niger and the president of this year’s Festival International de Louisiane, and his story is the perfect lens for understanding how language and culture travel and how they take root.

We talk about Musa’s leap to Louisiana in 2002 through CODOFIL, the shock of arriving with limited English, and the small acts of hospitality that made him feel like he’d found the place he was meant to be. From French immersion classrooms to conversations about Cajun and Creole heritage, he shares how French becomes a bridge between grandparents and grandchildren, between local traditions and global connections, and between a newcomer and a city that welcomes him.

Then we go behind the scenes of Festival International de Louisiane, one of the biggest free music festivals in the world. Musa explains why the festival works: diversity across genres and countries, year-round planning, sponsor support, and more than 2,500 volunteers who keep the magic moving. We also cover practical tips for attending, including family-friendly spaces, accessibility considerations, passes, the festival app, and what to know if it’s your first time downtown.

If you care about Lafayette Louisiana culture, Francophone heritage, or how community events can change a city, you’ll get a lot from this conversation. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs a reason to visit Lafayette, and leave a review so more people can find the show.
