Something significant has happened here, and I want to be honest with you about it — because I think we're watching both sides of this argument get it wrong. JD Vance is telling Israel to stop the "freakout," trust the MOU, and remember who their only powerful ally is. And on the other side, you've got Israeli ministers — and a lot of conservative commentators — saying this deal is a betrayal, that Iran got everything, that we've abandoned the one stable, democratic ally we have in that region. And once again, the thing that neither side seems willing to do is actually stop and ask the harder question. The question is not "is this a perfect deal?" — it obviously isn't. And the question is not "should Israel just sit down and comply?" — that's not how alliances built on mutual interest actually work. The real question is: given the actual conditions on the ground, what is the best outcome we can realistically achieve from these negotiations? And I want you to understand why that question is so much more complicated than either JD Vance or his detractors are making it look.
