  • The Portuguese Woman Building Community in Kibera, East Africa's Largest Slum
    May 22 2026

Our guest is Tatiana Teixeira, the visionary founder of AfroWema — a brand that bridges science, marketing, and a deep passion for sustainability to empower communities through fashion.

With a background in biology and marketing, Tatiana's journey began in 2018 when she volunteered in Kibera, Nairobi's largest informal settlement. Witnessing both the hardships and the extraordinary creative potential of the community ignited her commitment to meaningful change. In 2021, she relocated to Kenya to fully immerse herself in local culture, learning directly from skilled artisans. By 2023, AfroWema was born — a brand dedicated to blending African heritage with eco-conscious fashion through upcycled denim, handwoven fabrics, and traditional textiles like Kitenge.

AfroWema is more than a brand; it is a movement. Tatiana champions young designers, artisans, and creatives while partnering with organisations and schools to advance sustainable fashion education across Kenya and Africa.

In this episode, we explore AfroWema's impact on Kibera, sustainable fashion, recycling, and the brand's bold 10-year vision. Watch the full video Episode here [ https://youtu.be/TtjI6-0L0GE ]

  • The Boldest & Most Memorable : The Lion Is Writing and He's Wearing Ngamani
    May 16 2026

Made in Africa Podcasts | Season 2, Episode 4

The lion is writing — and he's wearing Ngamani.

This episode is one for the books. We welcomed Kenyan fashion designer, creator, and storyteller Gandani Carlton to the Made in Africa studio — and he brought everything. Prepared, passionate, and deeply thoughtful, Gandani gave us a conversation that went far beyond fashion.

We explored the powerful philosophy behind NGAMANI — a brand built not just to dress bodies, but to tell the stories of communities that have long been made invisible. From his gender-fluid collections to his sold-out runway ceremonies, Gandani is redefining what African fashion can say and who it can speak for.

We also got an exclusive look at AKISAMI, his most personal collection yet, ahead of its highly anticipated showcases in Nairobi on 30th May and Kilifi on 12th June — plus a ballroom afterparty that promises to be an experience like no other.

Made in Africa Podcasts brings you true, original stories of Africans — celebrating the craftsmanship, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit shaping our continent.
