'Getting lost to find yourself' stories don't often involve going to prison, unless you're award-winning comedian Angella Dravid. Love, Rock Bottom and other Triumphs is her story inspired by true events of a dorky teen who runs away from her dysfunctional family to marry her chat-room true love, almost 30 years her senior and living on the other side of the earth. BUT things get bad. Like, terrible. Yet, this is a surprisingly uplifting journey of finding yourself. Angella finds comedy in the darkest places and emerges as a warm, funny woman who has both a sharp and generous take on the systems and people who failed her.

Written and narrated by Angella and inspired by her own life story, this Audible Original podcast is produced by Piki Films.

It was funny, and very very relatable!

Enjoyable read, serious subjects addressed but presented in a lighthearted enjoyable way. Easy to listen to.

An essential listen

I loved this podcast. After recently finishing S1 of Taskmaster New Zealand, I looked up the work of the contestants, this podcast was almost certainly not what I had expected to find, but it was incredible. Funny, heartwarming and at some points difficult to listen to, especially as a white British guy, we do not come off well, our legal system DOES NOT come off well.

Huge thanks to everyone involved in making it, it's given me a lot to think about, and I'll be recommending it to a bunch of people.

A surprising story from Taskmaster NZ comedian

I know of Angella from her quirk task completions in New Zealand Taskmaster.

A down to earth retelling of a surprising, sometimes sad, story. Although a podcast series I listened to most of it all in one go.

Definitely didn't expect where she started her comedy. Well worth a listen!

Incredible story told with equal amounts of humor and pathos

This story will stay with you for a long time. What an amazing woman. I hope we see more of her. Would make a great TV show!

An audible page turner

A continously surprising and sometimes shocking tale that's narrated with the gentle calm only the protagonist could have. A binge worthy listen featuring the internet, love, prison and redemption.

The podcast equivalent of a page-turner

Wow, what a compelling and beautifully told story. I listened to the whole series in one sitting because it was so gripping. A really life-affirming and emotional tale.

interesting but...

it's presented as a comedy and the vast majority of it just... isn't funny. I stuck with it because I wanted to hear the story and it does pick up a bit in the later episodes but still, don't expect any laugh out loud moments. nothing against the author, I suspect she's funnier in person but this is just an interesting story
