About this listen

Tell Me Why You’re Special is a platform for people who are actually doing something with their life and are willing to talk about it honestly.

Hosted under the Listen Bitch Podcast umbrella by Branden LaNette, this show exists to spotlight real stories, real work, and real potential. Entrepreneurs, authors, creators, leaders, founders, and misfits who have built something meaningful are invited to the mic to share why they’re special without hype, without fluff, and without pretending it was easy.

This isn’t an interview about perfection.

It’s about process.

Obedience.

Failure.

Calling.

And the courage to put your voice, product, book, message, or story into the world.

If you’ve built something, are building something, or are brave enough to tell the truth about the road you’re on this show is for you.

No gatekeeping.

No fake humility.

No watered-down potential.

Just real people, real stories, and the question that matters most:

Tell me why you’re special.

Recently retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), after 24 years as a special agent, Eric Robinson worked a range of crimes including white collar, counterterrorism, crimes against children, gangs, drugs, and public corruption. He served as a SWAT operator, a firearms instructor, and a tactics instructor.

Eric will soon release his first book, a collection of the humorous, surprising, and intriguing moments from his career. The memoir combines his years in law enforcement with his career prior to the Bureau.

Eric joined the FBI after 12 years in Christian ministry, to include pastoring a Baptist church in Western NY.

With a background as a pastor and years of experience in HUMINT, recruiting and developing informants, Eric is a gifted and easy speaker. He uses humor to disarm and a quick wit to win people over.

Johnzelle is a licensed therapist by trade, and believes in the power of storytelling to heal, imagine, disrupt, and inspire. His writing focuses on mental health, race, relationships, and identity.

His debut book is "Mixtape: A Memoir"

He’s an avid reader and reads approximately 100 books annually.

He lives in Virginia with his daughter and an energetic Sheprador.

Here is the synopsis of my book (Mixtape: A Memoir)
A story about the sound and silence of survival, and the rhythms that carry us home.

In Mixtape: A Memoir, therapist and storyteller Johnzelle Anderson weaves a raw, lyrical portrait of resilience, identity, and healing.

Born to a disengaged West African father and a volatile white mother, Anderson grows up mixed race in 1990s Roanoke, Virginia—feeling like an outsider in every room. Amid childhood abuse, neglect, and racism, he clings to the safety of his grandmother’s love and his inner voice’s promise of a better future.

Told in tracks rather than chapters, Mixtape charts Anderson’s journey from trauma to triumph—from being body-shamed and silenced to building a career in mental health and forming a family of his own. Along the way, he confronts the legacy of generational pain, redefines his sense of belonging, and takes a life-changing trip to Ghana in search of the roots his father never shared.

Honest, at times humorous, and unflinching in its vulnerability, Mixtape: A Memoir is a coming-of-age story for anyone unlearning and daring to rewrite the soundtrack of their life.

    Hi!
I'm not special, but I've figured out some things here and there and want to share them with the world.

Lisa Van Slyke (The Lisa V) is a speaker, writer, and creator of the Three Moves Rule™, a simple framework that helps people stop emotional spirals and take their next clear step forward.

After years working in high-pressure environments—from military leadership training to hospitality and customer-facing roles—Lisa saw the same pattern everywhere: people weren’t failing because they lacked intelligence or ambition… they were overwhelmed and reacting emotionally in moments that required stability.

Her work focuses on helping people stabilize first, regain clarity, and move forward without panic, burnout, or self-sabotage.

Lisa speaks on emotional regulation, leadership under pressure, and personal sovereignty. Her tools are used by individuals navigating anxiety and overwhelm, as well as teams who need to perform well in high-stress environments.

She’s the author of Stop the Spiral and Three Moves Rule, and is building a platform dedicated to helping people reclaim control of their decisions, energy, and direction.
