Dans ce premier épisode, André, 80 ans, partage son parcours avec un cancer de la prostate diagnostiqué en 2009 et les traitements qui ont suivi. Il revient sur les effets physiques et émotionnels de la maladie, dont la fatigue, la solitude et la colère, qu’il a apprivoisées grâce à l’écriture et à la marche. Il raconte comment cette épreuve l’a reconnecté à sa vie intérieure et l’a conduit à s’engager comme patient partenaire dès 2011, un rôle qui occupe aujourd’hui une place centrale pour lui. André aborde aussi les transformations dans ses relations, la nécessité de protéger son énergie, d’apprendre à dire non et de redéfinir son identité lorsqu’on vit avec une maladie chronique. Étienne, 37 ans, revient sur le cancer du testicule qui a bouleversé sa vie à la fin de 2019, en pleine période des fêtes. Parti d’un mal de dos persistant, le diagnostic révèle une tumeur abdominale importante. S’ensuivent chimiothérapies, chirurgie, puis une récidive qui le conduit à subir deux autogreffes et plusieurs semaines en chambre stérile, en plein cœur de la pandémie de COVID-19. Il raconte l’attente, l’ennui, les effets secondaires parfois déroutants, l’isolement sans visites, mais aussi les élans d’humour qui l’aident à tenir. Au fil de son récit, on découvre la place essentielle de sa conjointe, la solidarité de ses amis, et la confiance qu’il choisit d’accorder à l’équipe médicale et aux protocoles de traitement. Étienne partage son expérience avec franchise, mobilisant humour, persévérance et soutien de ses proches.
