After playing his first game with his new team, my 10-year-old was super frustrated and emotional.

We're not the type of parents who handle things for our kids.  In fact, we're quite the opposite.  We teach our kids how to handle things for themselves.  It's awful, and difficult, and terrifying, but I'm in the business of raising successful adults, not coddled kids.

My husband helped my son to rehearse what he wanted to say to his coach.  My husband hung back and let our son speak to his coach on his own.  He explained his frustrations and explained why he was sad after the game.

My son's coach was super awesome!  He listened, took the feedback, and responded with actions that my son could take to improve.

Result:  my son felt empowered and had the absolute all-time best practice.  His little spirit was lifted and we all had a great week.  I highly suggest letting your kid learn to advocate for themselves.
