THE JUSTICE OF JESUS — Week 1: Love Your Enemies, Turn the Other Cheek

This week, we kicked off our new series, The Justice of Jesus, by exploring one of the most challenging and countercultural teachings in all of Scripture: love your enemies and turn the other cheek.

In a world that celebrates revenge, self-protection, and getting even, Jesus offers a radically different vision of justice—one rooted not in retaliation, but in mercy, forgiveness, and transformative love.

Looking at Jesus' response on the cross in Luke 23:32–38, we encounter a Savior who practiced what He preached. While being mocked, beaten, and crucified, Jesus prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

The justice of Jesus confronts us with a question:

How do we respond when we've been wronged?

This message unpacks what it means to break the cycle of revenge and embrace the way of Christ. Jesus shows us that true justice is not about returning hurt for hurt, but about reflecting the heart of God even in the face of opposition.

This isn't about weakness—it's about surrender.

Not just resisting retaliation—but embodying redemption.

A life shaped by the justice of Jesus is one that:

  • chooses forgiveness over revenge
  • blesses instead of curses
  • reflects the mercy of Christ even when it's costly

This message is an invitation to live differently—to trust God's justice, release bitterness, and become people who embody the radical love of Jesus in a divided world.

If you've ever struggled with forgiveness, wrestled with hurt, or wondered what Jesus really meant when He said to love your enemies, this conversation is for you.
