In this episode, Bill is joined by Elizabeth Johnson, owner of Rough to Regal in Staffordshire, to discuss the difficult experiences, health scare and sheer determination that led her to finally open her own salon.
She shares the reality of launching a business with no customers waiting outside, financial pressure mounting and very few people believing she could make it work. From handing out leaflets in the pouring rain to learning how to say no to unsuitable clients, she explains how she built her business without relying on heavy discounts or competing with the cheapest groomers in her area.
They also explore pricing, customer experience, money mindset and the importance of building a business around your own values. Elizabeth reveals how she moved from overdrafts and survival mode to savings, holidays and a steadily growing salon that is now working towards £90,000 in turnover, cat grooming and VAT registration in its third year.
This is a wonderfully open conversation about resilience, confidence and what can happen when you stop building somebody else’s dream and start backing yourself.
