He began his career in the mid-1960s as an assistant engineer at the EMI Abbey Road Studios in London. Working alongside producer Sir George Martin and senior engineer Geoff Emerick, Lush participated in nearly one hundred Beatles recording sessions and he is credited as Second Engineer on all Beatles recordings from Revolver to the White album including Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. He was also engineer on John Lennon’s 1st solo 1970 album ‘Plastic Ono Band’ and Paul McCartney’s Wings ‘Red Rose Speedway and ‘Live And Let Die’ sessions. He also worked on the Beatles ‘All You Need Is Love’ track broadcast via satellite to an audience of 400 million across 25 countries. He also recorded Cliff Richards, The Shadows, Cilla Black, Freddie & The Dreamers, The Hollies, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Badfinger, Hank Marvin, Adam Faith, Argent, Frank Ifield, PJ Proby, Pink Floyd, Manfred Mann, The Zombies, Andrew Lloyd Weber, London Symphony Orchestra, Vera Lynn, Shirley Bassey, Donovan, Cleo Laine, Leon Russell and many more at Abbey Road Studios. Richard Lush moved to Australia in the 1970s. In 1975 he took over as the producer for leading Australian pop rock band Sherbet; among his credits with them is the group's Australian Number 1 hit ‘Summer Love’ and "Howzat" (1976), which was also a top 10 hit in the UK. He went on to work at one of Australia's leading studios, EMI Studios 301 in Sydney and other studios including Billy Field’s Paradice Studios. Richard Lush won ‘Best Australian Record Producer’ in 1976 TV Week King of Pop Awards and engineered and/or mixed numerous tracks for the Sydney 2000 Olympics official music CD. Over the past 50 years he has been the Producer, Recording Engineer and/or Mixing Engineer for many artists including Sherbet, Billy Field, Jon English, Debbie Byrne, Swanee, Mark Holden, Janet Siedel, Dragon, Winter, Slim Dusty, Mondo Rock, Marc Hunter, Sharon O’Neill, Ted Egan, Max Merritt, TMG Ted Mulry Gang, The Seekers, Noel Crow’s Jazzmen, Olivia Newton-John, Mark Isaacs, Shona Laing, Graham Loundes, The Whitlams, Emma Pask, Geisha, Royal Australian Navy Concert Band, AC-DC, Mike McClellan, Reg Livermoore, Rocky Horror Show, Kevin Borich, Ross Ryan, Wendy Matthews, Marcus Hook Roll Band, Renee Geyer, Hugh Jackman, Doug Ashdown, Vanda & Young, John Stevens, Normie Rowe, Jeff St John, Julie Anthony, Colin Hay, Mi-Sex, Doug Parkinson, Marcia Hines, James Morrison, La De Das, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Stevie Wright, Kate Ceberano, and many more.
