The show is entitled, Hitting Your Mark. In theater, there are marks on the ground that us actors have to hit. You have to stand in the right spot to be seen in the right light. But I feel like it’s the same way in life. Whether it’s a dream we’re chasing, or a goal we’ve set, we all have marks that we want to hit. Those marks guide us to where we need to be. That’s what this show is all about. I’m sitting down with incredible creative people to talk about their journeys—what hitting their mark looks like.

  • The Secret To Believing In Yourself When The Industry Doesn't
    Jun 17 2026

This week on Hitting Your Mark, I sat down with actor Brandan Hunter Davis, who you may have seen on shows like Abbott Elementary and The Pitt.

Our conversation was all about believing in yourself, especially as a creative. Brandan opened up about the confidence that came from booking major TV roles, but also the rejection, comparison, and difficult moments that came with chasing this dream.

He shared how he was once told that unless he looked like Evan Ross or Chris Brown, he wouldn’t make it in this business. Moments like that can make you question your path, but Brandan talked about how his community, family, and faith have helped him keep going.

He also opened up about how his faith in God has been tested. There were moments where he felt like God had forgotten about him, but it was through those real, honest conversations with God that his relationship with Him became even stronger.

One of my favorite moments was when I asked him what he would tell his 5-year-old self, since that’s when he started acting. His answer was simple but powerful: keep your childlike innocence. In other words, keep going for it wholeheartedly, without fear of rejection.

And honestly, that’s our advice to everyone.

Whether you’re an actor, creative, or someone who needs a reminder to believe again, this episode is for you. You can watch at the link below!

  • The Best Strategy for Marketing Yourself as a Creative
    Apr 2 2026

My guest is multidisciplinary artist Kamryn Amada Gaskin, a USC grad school alum who studied digital media and has turned her knowledge of marketing and branding into a superpower for her creative and entrepreneurial work. We sat down to talk about something I personally wrestle with: MARKETING!

Kamryn defines marketing simply as the "how." How a brand tells its story. And her take on being marketable? It comes down to being as honest and true to yourself as possible. This sounds like generic advice. But in a world of AI and viral chasing, authenticity is actually rare and that's exactly what makes it so powerful. Just look at Ryan Coogler!

I even asked Kamryn for some personal coaching. After one of my annual premieres, what should I actually be doing? Her answer stuck with me: keep the story going. We came, we saw, we conquered and then we conversed. It's not about the moment, it's about the conversation that follows. Once the movie is over the work has just begun!

We also got into why so many creatives struggle with marketing in the first place. Her answer? Imposter syndrome. Not believing we belong in the room, and setting low standards for ourselves.

We started talking about marketing but ended up deep in a conversation about authenticity. That really became the thesis of the whole episode. If you take nothing else from this one, take that. Being authentically you is what people will resonate with most.

If you're a creative looking to share your story with the world, this episode is for you.

    For the dreamers,

    Ben

  • How Comedy Saved His Life ft. Akela O'Neal
    Mar 17 2026

On this episode of Hitting Your Mark, I sat down with stand up comedian Akela O’Neal. What started as a conversation about comedy turned into something way deeper. His journey into stand up isn’t traditional at all.

What really stuck with me was hearing how a near death experience changed everything for him. Coming out of that, he asked God a question we don’t always ask, “What would YOU have me do?” From there, he went back to school and started doing stand up.

For him, comedy isn’t just about being funny. It’s a space where he can be real and say the things most people hold in. At the same time, he’s navigating being a minister without feeling boxed in as a “Christian comic.”

We also talked about what “hitting your mark” really means. Of course, he wants the world to know his name. But what matters most is what his four kids will say about him. If they remember him as a present father, then he’s hit his mark.
