• How to Actually Serve LGBTQ Clients in Your Practice
    Jun 19 2026

Happy Pride. If you run a private practice and you want to be a better clinician for LGBTQIA clients, this episode is for you. I'm a gay man, I worked as a clinical psychologist in Moscow, Russia, I worked as a youth counselor and case manager at a homeless shelter where most of my clients were from the community, and I run my own private practice as a registered hypnotherapist in Seattle working with gay men.

I'm also the client who couldn't find a therapist. When I went through my divorce in Chicago, I had the money and I still could not find someone who could actually work with me. I eventually did, but I had to sacrifice the one thing that matters most: therapeutic alliance. That is what an "affirming" badge without real competency does to a person. This episode is me handing you the competencies so your clients never have to make that trade.

We walk through who the community actually is and why it is not one group, the language that builds or breaks therapeutic alliance, and the specific stressors that shape our mental health: the exhaustion of coming out again and again, hypervigilance as a survival response rather than a pathology, C-PTSD, the link between being gay and neurodivergence, and the unprocessed grief of coming out late in life. I also cover gender-affirming letters and why your willingness to write one matters more than ever, plus addiction in our community, chem sex, and party and play, which is the work I'm moving into as I begin my training as an addiction counselor.

If working with gay clients is your desire, or you want to attract more of them to your practice, book a consultation with me. And if you want more clarity, money, and joy in your business through better messaging, website optimization, and how you set your fees, my doors are open. I work with a small number of therapists one on one for six months.

  • I Tested AI Therapy as a Trained Therapist. It Scared Me
    Jun 11 2026

AI therapy is here, and it's here to stay whether you like it or not. I'm a classically trained therapist, and I went to AI therapy as a client to see what it can actually do. What I found should concern every private practice owner.

In this episode, I break down my full experience testing AI therapy and AI coaching, what AI gets surprisingly right, where it fails at diagnostics, and the real technology gaps that are quietly costing solo practitioners and small private practice owners their clients. By the end, you will be able to diagnose the gap in your own practice and know the steps to close it. Because if you don't close that gap, AI and big tech platforms will close it for you.

This applies to coaches, consultants, and advisors too. The same principles hold for your offer.

    What we cover:
The slowdown you may be feeling in your private practice right now and why AI is part of it. How clients are using AI to find therapists, and how to make your website findable. The between-session support gap and the client privacy risks of throwing AI tools at it, including a real court case where AI therapy transcripts were used as evidence. Why a human therapist is becoming a luxury service, and what that means for your fees. Why generic niches like anxiety and depression can no longer compete with a $20 per month AI therapist, and how to become the only therapist in the room for your specific client.

I'm taking three therapists to work with me privately one on one for six months. We work on your marketing, your visibility, your fees, and messaging that makes you the one therapist in the room. The investment is $3,000 for six months. If you book a paid consultation first and then decide to join, the consultation cost is credited toward the container.

  • Private Practice: Slow Season Strategy - Before, During, and After Action Plan
    May 21 2026

Slow seasons in private practice are normal. If you're in your first, second, or third year and your schedule suddenly empties out, nothing has gone wrong. You just haven't lived through enough cycles yet to see the pattern. This episode skips the obvious advice and gets into the psychological timeline of marketing, and why a slow season is actually a setup for what comes next.

    Let's test out a 15 minute consultation: https://calendly.com/eugene-berezin/15-minute-consultation

Eugene covers why some niches have brutal slow seasons and others don't, drawing on his years working with Deaf children and families in Moscow where summers were quiet by design. He breaks down the 90-day rule, why activating events don't convert overnight, and how the work you do now keeps you top of mind for the clients who book later. He explains why people need to encounter your message around nine times before they act, and what that actually means in practice.

There's the matter of the two client timelines running at once, the person ready right now and the person who will figure it out later, and why finding a good therapist is genuinely hard even for people with insurance and money to spend. There's also the truth that pushing harder in a slow season doesn't guarantee clients. It guarantees data. Wrong channel, wrong messaging, wrong audience, wrong problem, wrong timing, or a booking. Marketing tells you which.

And there's permission to rest. Some practice owners shut down through late December, bank their content ahead, and come back mid-January. That's a strategy, not a failure.

Underneath all of it is the thesis Eugene keeps returning to. You cannot show up as a nuanced, fully present clinician when you're underpaid, overworked, and burnt out. A profitable practice isn't greedy. It's what makes good clinical work sustainable.

In 2026 Eugene is focusing on working with therapists one-on-one on messaging, website optimization for both SEO and AI, income diversification, technology, and accountability, with IFS-informed self-energy as the engine underneath the business. He takes only three therapists at a time per season.

  • Your YouTube Channel Is a Clinical Asset, Not a Marketing Tool
    May 5 2026

Visibility is the number one asset for therapists in private practice. People who need a therapist are not equipped to know how to find one. Psychology Today gives them mixed results. Insurance directories often leave them with nothing useful. The more clear you are about who you serve and where they can find you, the more of your right-fit people will actually land in your practice.

This episode of the Heart and Profit Podcast is a practical breakdown of why YouTube belongs in your marketing stack as a private practice therapist, and how to think about it without falling into the "I'm not good at video" trap.

Eugene Berezin walks through his own YouTube journey starting in 2017, when a tech mentor told him every software developer should have a channel. He shares the analytics on his brand new hypnotherapy YouTube channel that hit 8,000 views and 30 hours of watch time in its first six weeks, and shows what kinds of videos actually perform for therapists.

In this episode, you will hear:

    - Why visibility is the number one asset for any therapist in private practice, and what most therapists get wrong about how clients find them
    - What kinds of therapist videos actually perform on YouTube, and why meeting clients where they are works better than giving them a lecture
    - A walkthrough of three therapists doing YouTube well, including Michael Pezzullo of Therapy for Gay Men, Kati Morton (around 1.5 million subscribers), and Denise, a therapist focused on mental health in the Black community
    - The harsh truth about social media validation and why some of your best content will flop, and why that is fine
    - How YouTube doubles as a clinical psychoeducation asset for your existing clients, not just a marketing channel
    - A free YouTube AI tool Eugene uses to brainstorm titles and thumbnails without paying for premium software
    - Why you should not force yourself onto YouTube if you legitimately prefer writing, and what other channels to consider
    - The money story that runs through therapy circles in the US, and why Eugene believes therapists are allowed to build profitable businesses

    Who this episode is for:
Solo practitioners, group practice owners, and licensed therapists in private practice who want to grow visibility, attract right-fit clients, and build a sustainable business that does not depend on insurance panels or referral droughts. Also for therapists who have been on the fence about whether mental health professionals should be on social media at all.

Eugene also opens up about his 2026 founder rate offer, a one-on-one mentorship program designed specifically for therapists in private practice. The work covers messaging, positioning, marketing, and business structure, including income diversification, podcasting, and speaking on stages. The premise: if you are not operating from self-energy, you cannot build a self-led practice, and burnout will eventually show up in your marketing.

  • The No-Pitch Referral System: How to Get Doctors to Send You Clients by Teaching
    Apr 29 2026

How to build a referral system for your private practice without networking, cold DMs, or pitching yourself to doctors.

If you're a therapist in private practice, referrals are one of the bloodlines of your business. Not the only one, but one of the most reliable.

In this episode I walk through what I call the no-pitch referral system. Where to find your referral sources. How to build relationships with medical doctors, fitness trainers, prep clinics, business coaches, and the local communities your clients already gather in. What to actually say when you introduce yourself, and what to never send in a cold message.

I share what I did in Moscow when I first started my private practice as a clinical psychologist working with the Deaf community. How I went from sign language interpreter to a full caseload through community presence, not marketing. And why those same skills work for therapists in the US right now.

I also talk about why social media alone is not enough, why specialization matters more than ever, and why being part of your client's actual community is the most underrated marketing move a therapist can make.

If you're a solo private practice therapist trying to build a sustainable caseload without burning out on content, this one is for you.

  • Is a Business Coach Worth It for Therapists in Private Practice
    Apr 21 2026

Whether you're a solo practitioner or building a group practice, this episode of the Heart And Profit Podcast is designed to help you navigate the world of business coaching. Grad school prepares you to be an excellent clinician, but it often leaves out the essential skills needed to run a successful LLC—from marketing and HR to systems and strategy.

In this episode, we dive into:

Why Traditional Business Coaches Often Fail Therapists: Discover why many "service provider" coaches aren't qualified to handle the ethical nuances and HIPAA considerations of a mental health practice.
The AI Sounding Board vs. Strategic Guidance: Why tools like ChatGPT or Claude can offer general advice but lack the efficacy and nuanced understanding required for therapist-specific marketing and intellectual property protection.
The 4 Key Pillars to Finding the Right Advisor:
Clinical Understanding: Why working with someone who knows the "language" of therapy is essential for ethical growth.
Diverse Experience: The value of international and "unprecedented times" experience in solving modern business problems.
Technical & Strategic Skillset: Finding a coach who can handle messaging, technical automation, and money stories without needing to hire a dozen different specialists.
Philosophical Alignment: The importance of "Self Energy" and Internal Family Systems (IFS) in preventing burnout and reactive decision-making.
I also share my personal mission for 2026: helping therapists break past the average $60k income barrier to build profitable, sustainable practices that allow for clinical creativity and personal freedom.

Ready to scale your solo practice? I work one-on-one with a limited number of therapists to refine their messaging, diversify their income, and build community-based referral systems that don't rely solely on social media.

  • Healthcare Organizations vs Private Practice Therapists: The Knowledge Gap
    Apr 14 2026

What do billion dollar healthcare organizations know about building a practice that most private practice therapists never learn?

I spent 10 years as a clinical psychologist in Moscow building a full practice with no social media, no Psychology Today, and no marketing budget.

Then I spent another 10 years inside healthcare organizations and big tech.

What I learned in both places changed everything about how I think about private practice.

In this episode I break down exactly what healthcare giants do that you can apply to your solo practice starting today.

Referral networks that cost you nothing.

Niche focus that makes marketing simple.

Tech skills that make your practice findable in the age of AI.

And the money story the therapy industry sold us that cost me a 10 year detour out of the field I loved.

This is not generic business advice.

This is what I learned from inside organizations like Providence Health and Services and from building a practice from scratch in a country where none of the tools American therapists rely on even existed.

If you are a therapist in private practice who wants to build something that lasts beyond your next session, this episode is for you.

  • Can You Afford to Take 30 Days Off? (The Truth About Private Practice)
    Apr 7 2026

In this episode of the Heart And Profit Podcast, we dive deep into the crucial distinction between being a self-employed therapist and a true business owner. Many clinicians are trapped in a "hustle" mindset, where their income is tied directly to their time. We’re breaking down how to shift your perspective and build a practice that functions as a scalable asset—one that provides financial security and personal freedom.

If you’ve ever felt guilty for wanting to make more money or overwhelmed by the "business" side of your practice, this episode is for you. We discuss the "money story" lies told in graduate school and how to use Self-Leadership (Internal Family Systems energy) to lead your business with clarity and purpose.

In this video, you will learn:

    • The Owner Intent: The simple mental shift that changes everything.
    • Self-Employed vs. Business Owner: Identifying which path you are on and which one you actually want.
    • Your Practice as an Asset: Why your business's performance is NOT a reflection of your self-worth as a clinician.
    • Overcoming the "Money Story": How to be a resource-rich therapist so you can better serve your clients.
    • Scaling Beyond the Chair: Creating multiple streams of income (consulting, supervision, and group practices).
