We will be the quickest to make fun o each other but will also be the quickest to defend each other as well. We will discuss how the training is different, talk wildfire dangers, the different perspectives of firefighters from police, and how they cope with the trauma they have faced. We then delve into how they have improve their mental health approach, but how it is still lightyears behind where it needs to be. Oh, and yes of course there is some firefighter vs cop banter.... I highly suggest this episode for anyone lookin to get into firefighting as it gives you a brief inside look at what to expect and how to train for it.

Throughout the conversation, themes of mental health, parenting, and personal growth are examined, highlighting the complexities of relationships and the importance of communication and therapy. Lindy Vogel (aka Sweary Mommy) shares her experiences navigating relationships, the challenges of parenting, and her journey with bipolar disorder. She discusses the creation of her publication, Sweary Mommy, as a platform for real and humorous parenting stories. Lindy opens up about her manic episodes, the impact on her family, and the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. The conversation emphasizes the need for authenticity in parenting and the value of community support. It is another great example of life throwing a crappy situation someone's way, and them putting up that middle finger and saying, "ok cool. I got it." A best lived life is sometimes being defiant to the fact life wants to pull you to your knees.

The week we talk to Pro MMA Fighter Julia Ramsden (Mavericks Training Center). She shares her journey through the world of combat sports, discussing her experiences in jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai, her role as a coach, and the dynamics of competition. The conversation flows from lighthearted anecdotes to deeper reflections on her training, injuries, and aspirations in the sport. Julia emphasizes the importance of personal growth, the challenges of teaching, and the thrill of competition, all while maintaining a humorous and relatable tone. We also delve into the misconceptions surrounding combat sports, and explain the importance of grit and skill.

On a more candid note- for anyone looking into a good way to "fight your demons" so to speak, sport is generally a great way to do it. Done properly, sport can bring you some of the most calm atmospheres (even if they appear chaotic), coupled with new found friendships. Most that listen to this podcast have some stuff they are working through or are trying to find the grit to get to the next challenge. Combat sports like we discuss this week will test that grit and will help you thirve in other ways outside of the gym.

For anyone interested in starting, or are seasoned and need a new gym, Mavericks Training Gym is located in downtown Huntsville, Alabama. Bonus, they also have excellent kids classes.
