Evelyn McHale: Deaths that Shocked the World
Evelyn Francis McHale was an American book-keeper who jumped to her death from the 86th-floor observation deck of the Empire State Building in 1947. A photography student took a picture of her corpse as it lay on top of a crushed car.
Her death was morbidly described by Time Magazine as 'The Most Beautiful Suicide' due to the tranquil way Evelyn's body seemed to lay peacefully atop of the car she landed on.
