About this listen

[Contains Mature Themes] While the case reaches a stalemate in Ireland, a parallel investigation in France - spearheaded by Sophie’s family - moves forward. The suspect finds himself confronted with new charges and the community grapples with the case. Sophie’s son - just 15 when his mother was murdered - visits his mother’s favourite pub in West Cork and shares a pint with the last known person who saw her alive.©2018 Audible Originals, LLC (P)2018 Audible Originals, LLC

It would be good to have an expert analysis of this case that doesn’t fall into the tired groove of chumming up with Bailey and ultimately leaving the reader/listener with no real answers as to who killed Sophie. Sadly, entertaining though it is, this is exactly what this podcast delivers.
The way the case - the crime scene, witnesses, the media, Bailey’s own bizarre behaviour, was dealt with meant that Ireland could never pursue a case. It’s really unfortunate that the French received so much abuse for taking forward their own legitimate court case. The way this is presented in this podcast is thoroughly reprehensible - Bailey has become the focus, Sophie is lost.
There is definitely a gap for a really thorough expert independent analysis of the case that keeps Sophie and her family at the heart of it. This podcast isn’t it, but it does provide an overview of the case, and some insight into Bailey, though I do question the presenters’ relationship with him.

The podcast format is a good one to explore this complex case
