About this listen

We’d like to introduce you to a new podcast. It’s called Different. But why different?

You know how when you’re wearing sunglasses it puts a tint on everything? Or if you wear glasses you see some things in focus and others out of focus?

Well, we all have lenses on the inside of our head too. And they tint, colour and shape everything we see, think and understand.

So, on this podcast Steve Chalke and Jill Rowe are going to dive headlong into just that as they discover a new ‘meaning making’ story and embrace a fresh way of thinking about life, the universe and everything in-between.

They will talk about getting to a place where we see our lives as part of something bigger than our day-to-day experience - becoming a part of an unfolding story. Finding joy in ordinary moments, facing failure and struggle and discovering liberation and purpose.

They’ll also discuss experiencing life as a gift and learning how to live on purpose. They’ll be peering into dark nights of the soul and finding hope. And simply learning how we are here to walk each home.

We hope you enjoy these conversations – discovering a new story and embracing new thinking.

  • Raising our humanity
    Apr 29 2026

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about raising one another's humanity. They discuss the need to face up to the dehumanising that we see in society and the impact when othering starts and blame is directed towards those who are different to us.

They explore together just how powerful it is to know people by name, to listen to and learn about their storey, and to always, always, always raise our humanity and connection above everything else.

And through it all, they come to understand that when we choose to humanise rather than blame, we are transformed along with the world around us. That makes this conversation a must listen.

  • Resisting with joy!
    Apr 15 2026

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about joy as an act of resistance.

When things feel despairing, we can still seek out joy.

Being able to dwell in joy takes planning and intention, and in time, what we do deliberately becomes second nature to us.

Even when surrounded by despair, whether it’s eating together, singing together or serving together, joy can be the outcome from which everyone benefits.

In these acts, we declare that a different way is possible.

We pray this episode helps you to see all the joy that does exist in the world, even amongst chaos and uncertainty.

  • Great Expectations
    Mar 18 2026

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about great expectations. They chat through how we can get stuck in maintenance, creating dependency rather than challenging injustice and reaching for progress.

They think about how vital it is to not settle, but to keep pushing for the fullest of lives as we live into our God given potential, living at our peak, loving God and our neighbour as ourselves.

Inclusion is always about more than going beyond what is and keeping on, keeping on. We pray you find possibility for yourself and others in this conversation.
