About this listen

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Iowa Weather Podcast — it's Thursday, February 26th. Step outside and you'll feel 26 degrees with a bite. But hold on.. Because by this afternoon, you're hitting 49. That's a 23 degrees climb in just a few hours. Western Iowa, you're the star of the show today. Starting at 24 degrees this morning, you'll surge all the way to 59 by mid-afternoon. That's shorts weather if you're brave enough. Central Iowa, you're at 26 now and headed to 49. Eastern Iowa and the Quad Cities wake up coolest at 22, but you'll still reach the upper 40s. One thing to watch: dense fog is hugging northwestern Iowa and the Minnesota border this morning. If you're driving early, slow down. Visibility drops fast. The fog should burn off by mid-morning as southwest winds pick up. Tonight stays mild. Lows around 30 degrees statewide under mostly clear skies. Friday pushes even warmer.. Upper 50s to mid 60s across the state. Western Iowa could touch 64. But breezy west winds gusting to 30 miles an hour will keep it from feeling quite that warm. Saturday cools off. Highs in the mid to upper 30s. Northern Iowa has a slight chance of light snow, but most of us stay dry. Sunday is the one to watch. A system approaches with snow likely across central and eastern Iowa. We could see 1 to 3 inches in some spots. The track is still uncertain, so I'll keep you posted. Monday and Tuesday bring mostly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Another rain and snow mix arrives late Monday into Tuesday. Enjoy the warmth while it lasts. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
