  • live at The Fitzroy Tavern London, "After the Fire Has Burned" Poetry Reading sketch
    Jan 4 2026

"After the Fire Has Burned" Poetry Reading at The Fitzroy Tavern London, by Joseph A Pasquale, an original poem.

"I wrote this poem about 50 yards from Dylan Thomas' grave in a cottage where we stayed. I could see his grave at will with just a simple step outside and a levitation upon my tip toes to overlook the cemetery.

Our house fire in Laugharne inspired the poem that I wrote about an hour later. I had just sat down to write what was beginning to birth itself in my mind, when the fire broke out, and I had to race and wake Maggie, as she was trapped upstairs in the attic with the drop down stairs.

Anyhow, I was able to put it out. I reckon a few more seconds and I wouldn't have been able to. The house fire then sort of worked its way into the new poem beginning from the first line. I wrote it fast, in 15 minutes, titled "After the (Final) Fire Has Burned."

This special reading was done inside of the Fitzroy Tavern where so many literary notables and artists stoked out the ashy ends of their days and lived out their social conversations and prepared for the next transition of day melting into night, and light into darkness."
