We throughout these sermons in the holiness code (Lev. 17-27) have look at various qualities of holiness. We in this sermon look at four more attributes: supporting the ministry, fulfilling our vocations, honoring the Name, and doing justice.

Paul teaches in these verses that the gift of eternal life is not by the law, but by grace. Why then they law? He answers this question by highlighting that the Mosaic covenant came in beside the Abrahamic covenant to increase sin, to convince his people of their deserved death, to serve his purposes of super-abounding grace. When we apply these truths, we have a right understanding of the law, are encouraged that where sin increases, God's grace abounds all the more, are reminded that eternal life is through faith alone, and we are exhorted to bear the fruit of being grace-filled people.

We learn from Leviticus 23 that God is sovereign over our time, that he has graciously and mercifully provided for us a redemption in Christ by his sacrifice in fulfillment of his promises. Therefore, we humbly submit to his will by living to and before the Lord and by keeping pure and entire the holy days he has commanded.

According to Paul, the blessing of eternal life comes to us because of the obedience of Jesus Christ. We, in this sermon, look at the meaning of Christ's obedience and the blessings that come to us from it. We find that Christ's obedience is his whole-life submission to the will of God, his active and passive obedience. Since he is our representative, and we are united to him in the covenant, his obedience is imputed to us. Therefore, Christ's obedience is the object of our faith, the reason for our repentance, the ground of our hope, joy, peace, and assurance, and the source of our own obedience.

The holiness code in Leviticus 17-27 is in Scripture to teach us to be holy as God is holy. Discussing this passage, we look in this sermon at the essence of, sphere of, and reasons for holiness. When confronted with our lack of holiness, we look to the perfect sacrifice of Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.

We must fully understand the problem Jesus came to fix, if we are to fully grasp his work. Paul in this passage describes the problem as death. In this sermon we answer the questions, what is death, why is there death, and from where did it come? Our ultimate goal in giving an answer to these queries is better know and marvel at the atoning death of Christ.
