Reflection on Scripture:

If you knew the gift of God. I think we truly don't understand the full breadth of the gift of God. This is even more true for those who are early in their faith walk. I spoke to someone today who really struggled with strong negative feelings about herself. I spent quite a bit of time talking with her about what scripture shows about God's love. Scripture is clear how each of us are profoundly flawed, yet it is equally full of references to the love of God. As we get to know who Jesus is it allows us to set aside our fears.

The woman in this story had so much to be ashamed of. She had no reason to assume that Jesus would show up and represent the very presence of God and His love. She had no understanding of what the gift of God would be. She had no expectation that she could ask Him for living water, or eternal mercy. Just as the person I talked to struggled with a similar problem. Both of these women came to learn of this gift, The grace of God, and they were profoundly changed by deeper understanding of Jesus. The beautiful thing is that we are able to get to know Jesus more and more as life goes on. You are continually learning about the gift that Jesus speaks about.

When Jesus offers you more understanding of His gift, do not respond with skepticism or doubt. When you experience troubles, isolation, fear, or anger in life, this may be an offer to truly get to know Jesus. If you rely on what you think you know about God it might get in the way of who God really is. That was the case for the woman at the well. Her isolation and life of sin opened hear heart enough to rejoice when she finally met Jesus. She accepted his proclamation as the Messiah and as a result she received eternal salvation. How well do you know the gift of God

Meditation of Prayer:

Pray as directed by the Spirit.

Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him.
