I am so glad that there is a measured approach to this debate and that JK Rowling is able to articulate her perfectly valid, and widely supported views. She, and other women, have been so misinterpreted that the truth has been buried under a pile of bullying and abuse.

Insightful

I came to this after hearing Dawn French recommend it. It has given me a greater appreciation and understanding of the argument on both sides. However, I find it abhorrent that people can't debate their side of an argument without reducing it to calling for a person to be killed or raped.

Food for thought

There is so much to learn from this podcast. The points at which Rowling speaks in clear dignified terms and is met with violent anger is a testament to how far social media has led people away from understanding. It highlights the way in which glorifying aggression has become a social norm. It is not surprising. I remember when Sinead OConner made a considerate and caring comment about the way that a certain young pop star was making herself vulnerable and was retaliated against with vitriol. You literally can’t discuss with nuance in the public arena anymore. I understand Rowling, I support her views, she is not a transphobe, she has bravely stood up for women to not be erased. It will truly be a sad day, and we will protest, if all of our experiences as women, all of the body that we own, is reduced to anatomical possessions for anyone to claim. In the context of this podcast, being called people who have cervix’s is the final point of misogyny success. Woman being removed from speech. Rowling should not have been the victim of hate for her careful and generous sharing of her views. Unfortunately this is what happens in social media. Shame on the actors whose careers were created by her, for disowning her without having any deep idea or knowing and instead are just part of a mindless bandwagon that none of them are in control of. The current climate states that you can’t care about women and care about trans women. so not true. Rowling is a beautiful human and i’m sorry that the world is so fickle and mindless. All she has asked for is that there needs to be a middle ground where it is not all take.. ie we are empathising we are working with.. you need to work with us back and empathise. this has not happened, she and others have been hounded fir being reasonable. And yet truly offensive people like Trump and Musk are left alone. Funny that. Women always always take the brunt it’s almost genetic to first attack a woman. If only people were more aware of the subconscious prejudice against women speaking up.

Truth, gentleness in the face of mindless aggression. Well done Phelps for taking this on so brilliantly.
