I remember Melanie's murder clearly because I'm a Melanie and was also 17 on 9/6/84, doing A levels and enjoying clubbing. This was a true needle in a haystack case, only down to the perseverance of 2 detectives did the investigation continue throughout this period to a successful outcome.

The podcast is well narrated and police procedures described, however unlike other podcasts the episodes don't run successively. You might be listening to episode 6 then it would run into episode 5 or 1. That aspect is extremely frustrating so it became impossible to listen to while driving. Each episode after 4 needs to be selected.

the Police at their best (mostly)

I was hooked from episode one.
A true crime mystery with real people, real work, real heartbreak and genuine care.
The police were utterly heroic in their efforts to solve this heinous crime and they kept pegging away at it.
Rob Murray takes the listener in a journey from start to finish with an amazing family and determined, human police officers . He assumes intelligence on the part of the listener and spares no information that give this sad tale a real depth. I came away understanding more of police procedure and diligence than any number of crime shows ever imparted.
Hearing how this terrible crime effected the family over time, the police, Murray, the people of Bath adds to the richness of detail and gives a real sense if how shocking this crime was and how long lasting the impact of it.
I cried and cried at the end, the combination of how Melanie died coupled with the witness statements left me moved and horrified.
Brilliant that they got this waste if space off the streets.
Hands down the best thing I have heard in Audible.

They never gave up.
