When Hannah and Eli bring their daughter home, they expect the ordinary terrors of new parenthood—the sleepless nights, the endless feedings, the bone-deep fear that they have no idea what they're doing. What they don't expect is the voice that comes through the baby monitor in the small hours, humming softly beneath the lullaby. A voice that is not Hannah's. A voice that knows the baby's name.

At first it keeps its distance, somewhere out past the edge of the nursery. But each night it comes a little closer to the crib. And it is learning—learning the lullaby, learning the baby's coo, learning to wear the voices of the people Hannahloves.

What waits in the nursery? What has it been cultivating in that old house, behind the freshly painted walls? And why does it sing as though it has every right to be there?

"The Nursery" is a story about the softest room in the house, and the patient, hungry thing that decides to move in beside the crib. Some houses come with history. Some come with a tenant who was here long before you, waiting for something small and warm to call its own.
