Years ago I journeyed from my home in Cumbria to central Manchester for a meeting. I travelled by train. Not wanting to risk missing a connection and being late, I built some buffer time into the journey. When the trains ran to time, an uncommon occurrence in the UK, I found myself with time to kill in Manchester. Being a city I was unfamiliar with I decided to play it safe and just sit in a small Café a few buildings along from the office I was due at. I ordered an espresso and tucked myself into a corner and settled down to read my book. I was the only customer and there was no music being played, perfect reading conditions. Within a few minutes, two young men entered, ordered drinks and sat down. I was surprised that they chose to sit at a table next to mine, a decision which baffled me given the plethora of empty tables from which they could choose. It became apparent that they were two friends who remained close despite life moving them in different directions. They met once a week for a coffee and caught up with each other. Despite my best intentions I found myself listening intently as they discussed the books they had been reading and exchanged TV recommendations. Their conversation meandered from point to point with the most delightful deviations. I enjoyed listening to their enthusiastic chatter so much that I realised I was late for my meeting. I reluctantly left and upon arriving at the meeting blamed the trains for my tardiness.

This podcast is that conversation. Each week I take Chad and Evan on a walk along the coast with Pickle, my beautiful Border collie. I quietly eavesdrop on two friends, who's love for one another is obvious but who life has separated, as they catch up on the things they have been up to. it's that simple and it's that wonderful.
