• Black Girl Charmed Rewatches: Y Tu Mummy También
    Jul 1 2026

    TRIGGER WARNING: Talks of suicide.

This week, the girls rewatch Charmed S5E10: Y Tu Mummy También AKA Awkward Sex Phase

Tacky maternity fashion and a gaping plot hole are not enough to ruin this season five episode. The girls swoon over guest star Adrian Paul from the Highlander franchise, while Rae drops a bombshell mid-Darryl/ Dorian Gregory gush-fest.

While breaking down the episode, Nelle realizes she’s falling deeper in like with Paige, and Rae confirms that Charmed and The Mummy Franchise (Brendon Fraser, Rachel Weisz) share the same marketing team. Despite being a favorite episode, Nelle wonders whether it would be better if we hadn't seen Phoebe Halliwell belly dance, and they both ponder why the Halliwell sisters think reactionary abuse is okay.

During the pop culture R.E.P.O.R.T, Nelle continues to get cozy with Neoludic Tiny Bookshop, while Rae reads about lawyer magicians in The Murder Wheel by Tom Mead and complicated childhoods in Brooklyn in Jacqueline Woodson’s Another Brooklyn. She takes a trip to the 90s with The Good Son and checks out Colin Farrell’s crime drama Sugar on Apple TV.

TW: Talks of child death, suicide and pregnancy loss

This week, the girls rewatch Charmed S5E9: Sam I Am AKA Dead Beats in Religious Psychosis

The Father’s Day episode focuses less on celebrating fathers and more on questioning faith and morality. Nelle and Rae debate which Old Testament rules guide The Elders or if they’re more like angels in Supernatural. When they’re not dissecting religious texts, they wonder why Phoebe Halliwell cannot do right by Cole -divorced or not, she has an obligation to do good, but is acting like JLo in ENOUGH. Meanwhile, Paige reconnects with the father who gave her up and is unimpressed with the imitation Frank Gallaher she’s forced to protect, and magical nannies spread the word that the Charmed Ones and their baby are persona non grata.

In the Pop Culture R.E.P.O.R.T, the girls continue to spoil Widow’s Bay and go on a Beyond the Gates rant. Kat Richardson has been treated unfairly for too long, and they can’t keep quiet about it. Nelle gets cozy with the game Tiny Bookshop and continues the Ali Hazelwood’s Bride book series, and provides a review. Rae gets lost in Netflix’s catalog, watching their latest documentary, Maternal Instinct, and the miniseries The Beast in Me.
