POLITICAL ENDORSEMENTS: I endorse Ken Paxton for the US Senate race in Texas. James Talarico's polcy stances on energy policy and DEI, among other things, are reckless. He advocates for solar, wind, and nuclear but not oil--Nixon endorsed the same views in '73, and we got long gas lines and oil prices that went up 800% over eight years. I endorse Greg Abbott for a record fourth four-year term as Texas governor. STATEMENT ON BRENDAN SORSBY: I condemn the ruling by former Tarrant County Judge Ken Curry, who reinstated Sorsby's eligibility with TTU football even after he admitted to gambling away $90,000--some of that on teams he played for. I support the NCAA's appeal of this decision and hope that the trial judges in Amarillo will re-suspend Sorsby. Gambling on one's own team is the cardinal sin of any competitive sport. It's what got Pete Rose and Art Schlichter banned. Why should Sorsby get a pass? The best thing for Tech to do is to expel Sorsby. Period. Texas Tech might be getting themselves into an SMU-type situation if they think Sorsby should be allowed to play. MID;LAND/ODESSA! Part 2 of 2. I gave a talk based on Accidental Resurgence? at the West Texas Historical Association conference in Lubbock, Texas, on April 5, 2024. Unfortunately, due to recording restrictions, I have prepared a studio version in lieu of the live version (i.e., the actual WTHA conference presentation). The story of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad--especially its work with oil companies and other businesses--can help us see how to succeed in business when challenges arise.
