Nació el año 370. Practicó la vida monacal. Una vez ordenado presbítero, acompañó a su
tío, obispo de Alejandría, y el año 412 le sucedió en el cargo. Combatió con energía las
enseñanzas de Nestorio y fue la figura principal del Concilio de Éfeso. Escribió mucho y
sabiamente con el fin de explicar y defender la fe católica. Murió el año 444.
