I have followed this from start to finish, listening to it while driving and walking or doing dishes. I found it to be very thoughtfully put together and have learned a lot of very useful language, having completed the course I find it useful to play back and revise the content to keep it fresh. I would say it's most useful to beginner learners and that unfortunately the last 10 or 15 chapters are less useful as the language becomes quite obscure and unnecessarily formal however for the beginner learners who drive a lot this really is very good value.

Recommended, a very useful resource

I found this course to be excellent. It advances quite quickly so it helps to have a reasonable level of French to begin with but should be beneficial to all if you take it at your own pace. Be sure to download the accompanying material as it explains the grammatical issues clearly for each segment. If you only listen to the examples on the audio you may miss the essence of some of the lessons.

Excellent audio course

What did you like most about Learn in Your Car: French, a Complete Language Course?

Of all the French audio lessons I have tried so far, this one progresses the fastest. And I mean fast. I like it, but considering I have zero French lessons in my past, I will take a long time to master these 10+ hours with full understanding - however I believe it is an excellent part of my library, and that I will grown into this title as I learn and listen to it again.

I took off one star, because I could not find a downloadable PDF book of the course material - whereas other Audible titles like Paul Noble French 1,2,3,4, and also Mark Frobose's "Behind the Wheel" 1 and 2, come with a downloadable PDF booklet when you log in to Audible by a web browser).

Any additional comments?

I think over time this will become my most important French audio book as it covers such a stunning amount of material, subjects, important phrases etc - but its not for those who just wants masses of repetitions of the basic verbs. Be ready for full and interesting sentences quite quickly, on a wide range of topics!

Unlike the other French audio books I have listened to so far, this one also employs very brief chapters, say 5 or 6 minutes each. There are over 100 such audio chapters like this! I kind of like it because each one is on a specific lesson or topic, BUT because there is no accompanying PDF book that I can find, its very difficult to know which of the 100+ chapters cover which topics.

Recommend overall.

Has HUGE amount of material. Scary, but good value

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. It's just too... slow...

What was most disappointing about Henry N. Raymond’s story?

Erm, there was no story. You people at Audible really need to categorise your books better so that reviews are meaningful.

Would you be willing to try another one of uncredited’s performances?

All credit to Mr Uncredited

Was Learn in Your Car: French, a Complete Language Course worth the listening time?

No! To be effective you would need to listen to this over and over and over again... and it's TOO SLOW for anyone to have the patience to do that.

Any additional comments?

I can see something that work very well would be this sort of thing, but with the facility to be able to mark vocabulary as 'done' so that you don't have to hear it again.when you so what you're supposed to do, which is listen to the material over and over again. Basically, the format is dated. Needs a decent front end app to be effective.

Dreary way to learn a language!

This course is simple to use, no wasted introductions etc. It covers a huge amount of vocabulary & useful expressions.

A good follow on to Pimsleur, Michel Thomas, Paul Noble etc.

I think absolute beginners would find it too difficult

Excellent value course which covers a lot
