She is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian and nutrition educator who has 10+ years of experience in nutrition and food policy, leading domestic and international program development, as well as health and nutrition training and professional development. She is passionate about empowering her community with cultural food and nutrition knowledge and strategies, as well as advocating for policies to support healthful and prosperous lives.

    Originally, she wanted to be a Chef; however, her grandmother insisted that she go to college to study science. We are glad that she empowered her to move on up.

    Today's guest is Bayo Curry-Winchell, MD is a board certified family and urgent care physician Dr. Curry-Winchell is Medical Director of Community Engagement and Health Equity, Co-Lead of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, and Medical Director of Urgent Care Clinics, Carbon Health and Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center, Reno, NV.

    Deeply involved with her community, Dr. Curry-Winchell is also the founder, Beyond Clinical Walls, medical director, Washoe County Sexual Assault Response Team, and volunteers as an assistant medical examiner, Washoe County Child Protective Services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Curry-Winchell joined the Reno Mayor's Task Force and Governors Medical Advisory Team.

    She has received many awards, including the 2022 Healthcare Heroes Award from Nevada Business Magazine, the Community Service Award from Washoe County Medical Society, the 2021 Young Physician Award from Washoe County Medical Society, the 2020 PBS Reno Spotlight Extraordinary Neighbor award, Sierra Nevada's Top 20 Most Powerful Women award in 2019 and recently named one of 75 Black health care leaders to know by Becker's Hospital Review and was a TEDx presenter in 2022. She participates in national media interviews and regularly contributes to several publications. She and her husband enjoy life in Reno-Tahoe with their two young girls.

    recreation centers. She has a heart for seniors and others who are beginning to explore physical fitness.

    Her motto is “Food is Not Your Friend” and “you must move your feet”. She always have fun during class

    and the response has been positively phenomenal. She believe in inclusivity and teach in a way that’s

    inviting for all participants. The flow of her class depends largely on who is present. She teaches you how to

    move and breathe, one step and breathe at a time.
