This is a book I’ll return to again and again. It’s fantastically observed and brilliantly written.

I’ll look forward to more from Tom James. I already follow him on Medium as he writes fabulous pieces on there too.

I went out running and to the gym listening to this book. As long as you don't mind laughing out loud whilst on your own and others staring at you then I highly recommend this book. The audible performance was very dry and perfect for the tone of the book. I will be listening to it again for the bits I missed whilst laughing and explaining and apologising.

Witty modern philosophy of our dystopian present, from the point of view of a Childfree. Not only did I greatly enjoy it (despite the strange cover) but it left a lot of "food for thought" to chew on. Great

Both hilarious and scary

As a child free person I generally enjoyed this book, it described in a funny way a lot of the problems I spotted myself with the modern approach to parenting and how society is expected to treat parents and children. I especially laughed at the part where it talked about parents expecting you to engage their child if they were staring at you in a cafe. It also described a lot of the frustrations felt by childfree people, such as places like bars being expected to cater for children and the assumption that having children makes you morally superior.

I didn’t give it 5 stars though as it seemed to veer off topic near the end. In the last chapters it seemed to become more of a rant a la Piers Morgan where millennials are completely generalised and described as perpetual children who are too sensitive. (Ignoring the fact that most of the overly sensitive people ranting on Facebook are generally older)
It also described anyone who liked video games (or anything said to be for children) as people who have never matured and a sign of being parented badly. (Funny how sitting in front of a TV like a zombie for hours every night is never seen as ‘immature’) Oh and all millennials are living in their parents basement because they have been parented so badly, nothing to do with rising house prices, stagnating wages and lack of job opportunities of course.

So yes, give it a go but be aware that it does get a bit ‘angry boomer’ near the end.

This has been an absolute joy to listen to on my commute to work, although having to stifle my laughter in front of fellow passengers is always a bit embarassing. Can't recommend this book highly enough
