The sentence is the common ground where every writer walks. A poet writes in sentences, but so does the unsung author who came up with Items trapped in doors cause delays. A good sentence can be written (and read) by anyone if we simply give it the gift of our time, and it is as close as most of us will get to making something truly beautiful. Enter acclaimed author Professor Joe Moran. Using minimal technical terms, First You Write a Sentence is his unpedantic but authoritative explanation of how the most ordinary words can be turned into verbal constellations of extraordinary grace.

Author is someone I'd like to have a beer with
This is a motivational book with much less practical knowledge than I hoped for. Performance is pleasant which more than makes up for lack of meaty content. If you need a little 'you can do it'... This book is for you.
If you want to know what a platform is and how to get noticed, read Art of Start - Guy Kawasaki also because this book isn't very practical in terms of instructions.

Write for one person
I like the tip of writing for one person as if you're writing the blog post for that one friend who could use the advice or information you're providing. This helps focus on the main points and not be so concerned with explaining why you're writing the blog post. There are also good tips on getting started. The whole point is to write seriously and on a regular basis. Don't dally with grand book ideas. Make a commitment to start delivering writing pieces even if they're bad. You can't improve on them unless you have something to work with.

Good book for those ready to follow their dream
Considering how jamb packed this book was of info, it was concise. Just about everything written was useful. The author says make every word count and he shows what he means by using this book as an example.
I will listen over and over as a means of keeping myself focused on the good stuff that'll get me where I want to go. I need a "coach" because I find myself going down rabbit holes often. This book was exactly what I needed, very straightforward advice, some I know, but needed to hear.

Good Practical Info. and inspiration.
I enjoyed this book and it has helped get some good perspective about my career as a writer. I think the thing I most took away from it was to just write, every day, and get it in front of people without worrying about it being perfect! Every article or blog post doesn't have to be something akin to Tolstoy or Shakespeare and we need to stop being perfectionists. Thanks Jeff. I needed to be reminded of that.

Not for novelists; annoyingly "cute"
Overly generalized and very basic advice for writers of short form non-fiction (i.e., bloggers, article writers, etc.) As a fiction writer I found none of this advice to be applicable to me nor useful, even in a general sense. If you want to become a blogger this might be useful for you, otherwise, I recommend you look elsewhere.

Thought this was about how to make myself write...
I was under the impression from the summary that this was a book with strategies on how to discipline myself to get in the seat and start writing everyday. Maybe that's just what I wanted to hear when I was reading the summary, bcuz that's what I really want to find but can't seem to yet. If you are looking for vague lessons on how to become a magazine writer or bloggiest, or how to build relationships in the publishing world, this is your book. Emphasis on the keyword "vague" as there is no real concrete step by step here, simply a "what" to do rather than a "how" to do. If that's what your looking for, you found it. I'm not going to give any praise nor criticism to this book per say, as I skimmed through the second half of it at 3x speed once I realized it wasn't at all what I was looking for but not wanting the 6 o 7 bucks I spent on it to be a total waste(obviously DON'T waste a credit on this one.) Hope that helped some of you decide to buy this book or not...
