You know the episode of that TV show in which a kid with superpowers controls a town through terror while demanding that everyone does whatever he wants and always treats him kindly?... A trope so formulaic that it was parodied by The Simpsons?... Well...

And I don't often say this, but why didn't they just kill him?

Of course, I know that the answer is so that they could have the dramatic finale. But it's yet another eye-rollingly frustrating case of the protagonist of a horror story doing the stupidest thing possible so that the story can happen.
