Summary

Piloting a shuttle through a deadly solar flare, Jean Grey saves the X-Men, but is possessed by one of the universe's most powerful forces - the Phoenix. As she adapts to her new powers, the mutant team launches an assault against the clandestine organization known as the Hellfire Club. Once inside, however, Jean is tricked by the villain Mastermind into betraying her teammates. She becomes first the Hellfire Club's Black Queen and then Dark Phoenix, as the power to destroy worlds bursts forth uncontrolled.

Shooting into deep space, Jean destroys an entire star system, then encounters a cruiser piloted by the spacefaring race the Shi'ar. When the cruiser is obliterated, the Shi'ar queen decrees that the Phoenix must die. But only the X-Men can hope to stop Dark Phoenix and save Jean Grey.

Great story poorly executed

If you didn't know that Jean grey was a beautiful woman and that both Scott and Logan are in love with her well this story tells you all about it, if fact it won't shut up about it. So much of this story is dragged out at times that I found myself yelling at the MP3 player to get on with it!!
Basically if your looking for a non stop exciting reinactment of the Dark Phoenix story I would advise you to look elsewhere

If you are a fan of the comics, you will be happy

For any fans who were disappointed by the two failed attempts to make a Dark Phoenix movie, this audio book does a good job of telling the story and can fill the void until Marvel tries to make a third Dark Phoenix movie.

Graphic Audio was better for Marvel

It's a great story, but the Graphic Audio stories were better. After Graphic Audio, this was underwhelming. The narrator did her best though, and in her defense, Graphic Audio X-Men stories are a hard act to follow. she did great for doing it by herself.

the comic is probably better

I've never read the comics, but i feel like the story might not have translated well to an audio book. I heard that this was one of the best X-men story lines from the comics.

Bad narration can kill a story.

Is the Dark Phoenix cursed??? The narration on this is truly terrible. The “dynamic reading” made me legit cringe. I couldn't finish.
