About this listen

Ludwig Wittgenstein was born in Vienna in 1889 and died in Cambridge, England in 1951. He was one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century.

"The portrait that emerges from this account is human, all too human, but the author's respect for Wittgenstein is never in doubt. Though brief and written so that it can be understood by those with no previous knowledge of Wittgenstein's philosophy, this book is an important contribution to our understanding of the man and of the development of his thought.”

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Cut out all the name dropping of Austrian philosophers thereby shortening it by half and greatly improving it.

Would you ever listen to anything by W.W. Bartley, III again?

No.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

By reading too slowly ( improved by 10% speed-up); unconvincing German pronunciation; mis-emphasis of many words; didactic tone.

If this book were a film would you go see it?

I don't go to the pictures very often.

Any additional comments?

Biographical parts are interesting. Philosophical parts are unintelligible (to me). They seem like an academic essay trying to get everything in.

Good bits but very American verbose - hard work
