About this listen

Fueled by a passion for running dogs, Gary Paulsen entered the Iditarod - the 1,180-mile sled-dog race through the Alaskan wilderness - in dangerous ignorance and with a fierce determination. For 17 days, he and his team of dogs endured blinding wind, snowstorms, frostbite, dogfights, moose attacks, sleeplessness, hallucinations - and the relentless push to go on.

Winterdance is the enthralling account of a "stunning wilderness journey of discovery and transformation" (Chicago Tribune), lived and told by "the best author of man-against-nature adventures writing today" (Publishers Weekly).

An absolutely great book—really enjoyable from start to finish. It had lots of laugh-out-loud moments while still capturing the reality of training and racing dogs. The author manages to blend humor with heartfelt insight, showing a deep bond with both nature and the dogs. A brilliant listen that feels both authentic and entertaining.

Funny, gritty and emotional

This was an excellent story of a man’s battle with the elements, I felt I was with him the whole way, apart from having the advantages of central heating

Great rollicking ride through Alaska

Brilliant book. For a husky owner who has huskys and dryland Bush's it was an enthralling read. The narrator does an excellent job of reading the story, to the point you do believe it's him retelling his memorys.
