A decent listen.

I've been enjoying the Weather Warden series on audiobook, and this one certainly continues the story with the by now customary combination of designer shoes and atmospheric physics. Dina Pearlman again does a stellar job of voicing Joanne Baldwin and a variety of other characters, with just one exception. In this installment there's an English character (albeit with the not terribly English name of Eamon) and it transpires that Pearlman can't do an English accent to save herself, wobbling bizarrely between charicatured BBC and joke Cockney. This is a shame as she's perfect as Joanne and makes a good fist of voicing other characters, even male ones. As to the book itself - this is another in the series - not as good as Heat Stroke, which I think is the best so far, but not bad and carrying the story on to another to-be-continued ending. I'll certainly be back for the next, I just hope Eamon gets killed off in it.

Dick Van Dyke in feminine form

Oh dear, oh dear; a Mancunian Englishman whose speech varies between Dick Van Dyke’s version of an Englishman and an Australian. I’m not a great fan of American female narrators but Dina Pearlman has done an excellent job up until now. Sadly her portrayal of Eamon really grates. Despite this, it’s a worthy continuation of the series.
