Summary

A tortured soul meets a damaged family.... A lonely man, a widowed woman, a carefree boy, and a broken girl.... Can the four come together and help heal each other? Or will fear of the unknown and guilt of the past keep them apart?

Her whispered prayers break her....

At night, as she's drifting off to sleep, I press my ear to the door and listen to her heart-wrenching pleas. Her words are agony to my healing heart, but I cherish the sound of them, for that's the only time I ever hear my beautiful daughter speak. Since her father died two years ago, she's grown quiet and withdrawn. Cat's Valley was to be our new beginning, a place where my family and I can heal, but what we find there is so much more.

Scars mar his body. Pain has left him in pieces....

Four years ago, I lost the two things I cherished most in the world. They were ripped from my arms in the most painful and cruel way. Since then, I've kept to myself, preferring to stay away from the pitying looks and murmured rumors. Everything changed when she and her children barged into my life. It was an accident, and I don't deserve them, but now that they've stepped into my life, I'm not sure I can let them go.

Top 10 listen of the year!

I always love when a book is recommended to me, and at the same time have the thought it may not live up to the expectation of how good it will be. This book far exceeded anything I thought it could be. From the first scene, I was hooked. The emotional pull of all of the characters is so strong, every feeling and every breath they take you are taking it with them. Alexander has lived through a horrific accident that leaves him scarred both physically and emotionally. Gwen recently moved to town with her two children after losing her husband. A forgotten wallet, and then huge snowstorm catalyst these two souls together for what I consider fate. The push-pull attraction between Alexander and Gwen is strong and the bond that builds between the kids and Alexander is unbreakable. But the situation as it is prevents them from being together. This heart wrenching story will bring tears to your eyes for the pain they feel, and the happiness they find. The journey to heal and love again has a tough road, but with perseverance, respect and devotion it's worth the ride. And make sure as you listen you have a tissue with you, you will need it!

The narration of this kind of book is key. The narrators need to be able to inflect the emotional pain that is present. Nicole Blessing and Rhett Samuel Price nail this. From the main characters of Gwen and Alexander to the children, especially Kelsey's prayers, I grieved and sang with these two. The book is emotionally fulfilling and I highly recommend it!

Beautiful and emotional. MUST LISTEN!!!

I love, love, LOVED this story! Whispered Prayers of a Girl is such an emotionally heartbreaking story. Alexander and Gwen have been hurt in the past and are still affected by it in the present. Still, their chemistry and connection was undeniably strong and so beautiful to watch unfold. Even more beautiful was the bond between their kids. My poor heart couldn’t take the feels that produced.

Narration by Nicole Blessing and Rhett Samuel Price did an amazing job narrating. Both are new to me narrators, but they completely blew me away with their ability to bring to life all the emotions in the story. They made Gwen and Alexander and all their emotions come to life and the story was better for it. 5 Stars.

This is not only a Must Read, but a Must Listen!!

Let me just start with...This is a not only a MUST READ, but a MUST HEAR too!!

I LOVED this in both forms, but having this on Audible really brings this one to life.

Whispered Prayers of a Girl took me on a journey like no other and totally stole my heart. This is a heart breaking journey of how loss can torture you and break you with all the what ifs in life that we all face sometimes in our lives. This book had me feeling every emotion possible from beginning to end. It's not only heartbreaking, but heartwarming. Yes, I guarantee that it will rip your heart out, but I also guarantee that it will slowly put it all back together.

I have to admit that I usually try to stay away from the reads that hint to me that it may be one that will make me cry, but I could not resist a book by Alex Grayson.

Alex Grayson always blows me away with her writing, but Whispered Prayers of a Girl blew me away like no other. Make sure you take a chance on this one, I promise you that you will not regret that you did.

Happy Reading and Listening Everyone!!!

Beautiful and emotional second chance story

I originally had the opportunity to read Whispered Prayers of a Girl by Alex Grayson when it was first released and it was a beautiful and emotional story of second chances. It touched my heart and will be with me for a long time. A man who lost everything and a family who is damaged and grieving. Is their second chance or are they all too damaged?

When I was offered the opportunity to listen to audiobook, I jumped on the chance to experience this story all over again! Nicole Blessing and Rhett Samual Price, the narrators, did an amazing job in bringing Alexander and Gwen to life. Their story is heartbreaking at times, but also charming to experience. They truly brought this story to life for me.

Alexander lives with guilt and loss that suffocates him on a daily basis. Cutting himself off from everyone and everything, he prefers to suffer alone. Barely existing, he has no idea how to forgive himself, much less move forward. He is so moody and shattered. He does not feel he deserves another chance.

Gwen needed a fresh start for her and her kids after the unexpected death of her husband. Her children lost their father and though her son seems to be doing okay, her daughter is suffering deeply. Daniel was so sweet and will have you smiling. Kelsey, on the other hand, has not spoken since the death of her father. At a loss, Gwen is patient with her in the hopes to one day hear her speak again.

Than a chance meeting changes everything. The last thing Alexander wants is letting people in, but when Gwen and her kids need help, he steps in. Though Alexander wants nothing to do with them, there is a kindred connection between Alexander and Kelsey that will touch your heart.

This audiobook was very emotional and heartbreaking. Both Alexander and Gwen suffered great losses and struggled to move forward. And Gwen’s children were amazing and will steal your heart. This slow burn romance that will grab your heart and hold it to the very end.

Happy reading!

4.5 Emotional Stars

This was a re-read for me, I loved this book when I read it. I will admit that the voices of the narrators were not what I had pictured in my head so it did take a little bit for me to get into the book this time around but when I settled in I loved the content just as much as the first time.

From the synopsis of this book it is clear that you are not setting yourself up for a warm and fuzzy read, but you are setting yourself up for an emotional journey of healing and slow steps to moving forward from substantial loss.

Alexander has let his loss take over his life in every way over the past 4 years. He wears his scars from that horrific night for everyone to see, and sometimes the gossip and murmurs are just too much to endure. Many would say he has removed himself from society as much as possible to shield himself from further pain. Watching him with his horses and dog, you can clearly see deep down he is a strong loving man. When he sees that truck stranded and goes to help the last thing he was ready for was Gwen and her children.

Gwen has uprooted her children and moved them to make a new start. Just a couple of years after loosing her husband to early to a sudden heart attack. Each of them are dealing with the loss in a different ways, but Gwen has to keep herself moving forward for her children in hopes to help them move along. They are quick to fall in love with the new small town and it's residents. Will this move help Gwen bring her little girl back? Will she find a way to truly move forward?

The last think Alexander was looking for was relationship and family, can Gwen and her children bring that caring man back to life while healing themselves?

Ms. Grayson does a wonderful job of expressing the feelings of her characters. It is beautiful to watch how a need to help another person with their grief, can silently start the healing process within yourself as well. Sometimes it takes a shared understand to really let someone in. I love that Alex has used animals in the healing process and shows the strong connection that can be formed. A super read that help to remind us that life is to short and should be lived to the fullest, you never know when things can change.

Beautiful and Emotional

I absolutely loved Whispered Prayers of a Girl! Until this book I never paid much attention to how some authors are able to pen a story that strikes a perfect balance between a read that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at once. This book took me on an unexpected emotional rollercoaster ride. Both Alexander and Gwen carry scars from their pasts that still affect them. Each broken in their own way it was amazing to see how they each balanced the other. I loved the connection that formed between them but the one between Alexander and Gwen's children both warmed my heart and squeezed it tight.

Both Nicole and Rhett did an amazing job narrating this book. From the sweet and calming voice of Gwen to the gruff cadence of Alexander, the exuberant voice of Daniel and the whispered prayers of Kelsey they both inflected this story with more emotion than I was prepared for. I smiled, laughed, cried, raged, and had my heartstrings pulled on throughout this whole read. Whispered Prayers of a Girl was a fantastic and emotional read that had my emotions all over the place by the time I was done.

Emotional Journey!

Gwen’s husband passed away two years ago and the entire family, especially her eight year old daughter Kelsey, have had trouble overcoming their grief. The only time that Kelsey speaks is when she whispers her prayers at night asking for her Dad when she is alone and thinks no one can hear and it breaks Gwen's heart. Gwen thinks a new start will help so they move to Colorado along with her six year old son Daniel.

Alexander is quiet, closed off and if it was possible would have no further human contact period. Four years ago, a tragedy occurred that has left him scarred on the outside but the scars on the inside are so much worse. A chance meeting in the grocery store has raised feelings in Gwen that she doesn’t understand and they make her want to know the man underneath the gruff exterior.

Both Alexander and Gwen have survived more than anyone should have to and the fact that they persevere is a testimony to their strength but in order to face the future they must make peace with the past. This book is an emotional journey that will make you laugh and will make you cry but it won’t leave you untouched. I enjoyed the narration of this book as the emotion they both brought to the story made it that much better. I voluntarily reviewed a Complimentary Copy of this book from the narrator.
