A Cut Above

Another very sad tale of the murky world of small time boxing, but far better told than most.

Well researched, poorly delivered (2.5 stars)

This was a mixed bag for me.
It’s a tragic story and as with most true crime podcast/documentaries presented nowadays, has a fair amount of ambiguity. It also seems very well researched.
In my opinion, the parts that fall short are the narrator, (seemingly lacking much affect) and the way the chronology of events and everyone involved is presented in an overly complicated way. It shifts the focus from exploring the underlying issues, to working out who and why they’re being interviewed. Maybe there was too much material and they struggled to cut it down whilst maintaining cohesion?
Considering this is such a weighty case, I’m wondering why it was so diluted in this podcast; it seems to echo the treatment inflicted by the court process.
