About this listen

Everyone knows that timing is everything. But we don't know much about timing itself. Our lives are a neverending stream of 'when' decisions: when to start a business, schedule a class, get serious about a person. Yet we make those decisions based on intuition and guesswork.

Timing, it's often assumed, is an art; in When, Pink shows that timing is in fact a science.

Drawing on a rich trove of research from psychology, biology and economics, Pink reveals how best to live, work and succeed. How can we use the hidden patterns of the day to build the ideal schedule? Why do certain breaks dramatically improve student test scores? How can we turn a stumbling beginning into a fresh start? Why should we avoid going to the hospital in the afternoon? Why is singing in time with other people as good for us as exercise? And what is the ideal time to quit a job, switch careers, or get married?

In When, Pink distills cutting-edge research and data on timing and synthesizes them into a fascinating, readable narrative packed with irresistible stories and practical takeaways that give readers compelling insights into how we can live richer, more engaged lives.

A book that states the bleeding obvious! Are there people out there who haven't worked this stuff out for themselves? Maybe this is useful for teenagers? Orientated towards an American audience. Don't bother with this book if you're from anywhere else, or if you're over the age of 18.

Bleeding obvious!

Daniel Pink’s ‘when’ book is all about looking at approaches around the cycles of time such as don’t see a judge in the afternoon or have surgery (though I’m not sure there’s much you might be able to do about these options) and other aspects around how time can affect optimal working and affect behaviour. I listened to this on the audiobook which kept making reference to PDFs that did not come with the audible download and I felt it was important as they contained many aspects of how to take this information and make it practical to you every day life. So I bought the book also, and perhaps it is the best way to get the most out of this book. It includes taking short naps, taking walks, do creativity in the afternoon and more focused work in the morning and other useful, practical ideas that can help you reach your full potential. It’s quite short but the practical applications are what I liked the most.
