About this listen

'One of my favourite neuroscientists' ANGELA DUCKWORTH, author of Grit

'Intellectually penetrating and beautifully written' ROBERT CIALDINI, author of Influence

A neuroscientist reveals the hidden calculations that shape our daily decisions - and how to make more fulfilling, impactful choices in your work, relationships and life.

Why is it so hard to stick with the choices we make? Why is it so hard to change - and even harder to help others change? The answer lies in the feedback loop between what we value, who we are and what we do: this book is the key to unlocking it.

In this groundbreaking book, award-winning neuroscientist Emily Falk reveals the systems in our brains that control our daily decision-making - and gives us the tools to take meaningful action. Blending cutting-edge science with stories and practical insight, she reveals how our values shape our sense of self, how status, community and culture can rewire our minds, and how we can employ these realities to build new opportunities. Armed with this knowledge, you'll learn how to:

  • select information, focus attention and set up your environment to support your goals;
  • become less defensive, take on feedback and broaden your curiosity;
  • bring your brain in sync with others to learn, persuade and grow.

This is an essential guide to working with your brain to build a life shaped by intention.

was so.e very good facts and ideas but far touch chit chat about irrelevant subjects to fill the gaps. I think this is more of an entertaining book than a resource.

felt a bit padded out

Interesting but multiple examples fail to strengthen arguments. Could have been more severely edited for better impact

Could be half the length

Started out good, but around the end started to look at views of “white supremacy” and “cis white male” views not matching a strong less advantaged black womans’ views. Studies were good but biased race ideologies not needed here

Leave out social/racial views

common sense and empty talk, there's nothing you already don't know. it's a book if someone needed to write a whole book about nothing in particular to get money while putting in random unrelated bits and phrases. Reads as if a procrastinating school student had to pull a one nighter to write an essay imitating a book for an English class to get a minimal passing grade. No logic or structure. Useless if you want to learn something. Read if you like wasting time. 95% of the book is a filler which serves as an excuse to force some political opinions of author's onto you in the remaining 5% but in an obvious way.

I don't care about ''successful'' or semi-''famous'' (not famous at all) acquaintances of the author that are completely unrelated to the story and fit in like a square into a circle! I can see how much the author wanted to put that in just so that they have at least something to write about!

i feel scammed!
