Kindheit und Jugend hat er in Mecklenburg verbracht, und es ist reizvoll nachzuvollziehen, wie er tatsächliche Erlebnisse verwandelt und in seinen köstlichen Kindheitsroman "Reinhard Flemmings Abenteuer zu Wasser und zu Lande" eingeflochten hat. Der eigentlichen Autobiographie ist der Bericht über eine Reise beigefügt, auf der Seidel als älterer Mann die Stätten seiner Kindheit und Jugend aufsucht.
